JUBA – At least one thousand forty-eight internally displaced persons who fled conflict in Minga of Western Equatoria State are now stranded in Rokon Payam of the Central Equatoria State.

According to the Acting Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in Western Equatoria State Thomas Aringa, clashes allegedly between SSPDF and NAS forced civilians to evacuate the Minga area.

“More than 1,048 households fled from Minga to Rokon, in the territory of Central Equatoria State, along with more than 636 individuals,” said Aringa last Monday.

“So, we need support from both the CES and WES governments and organizations working here [in Yambio] to at least assist these people,” he added.

Aringa stated that the IDPs, facing hunger, are seeking relocation from Rokon to the Wito area in Western Equatoria State.

“When they are brought to Wito, they will depend on coconuts. The IDPs are stranded with no food; they are in Rokon surviving on mangoes – it is very difficult,” he lamented.

He appealed to the government and organizations to swiftly intervene by providing food and non-food items.

Furthermore, Aringa reported on Tambura County, where about one thousand people were forced to leave their homes and are now in the TOB center, including 250 mainly elderly women.

“On the other side, there is a barracks where more than 700 individuals from the community are located. So, these people need assistance, especially tents,” he noted.

The RRC boss in Western Equatoria disclosed that they have 100 tents in Juba awaiting transport to the state.

However, the transportation issue remains unresolved as UNICEF has yet to respond to the RRC’s plea.

He further stated that more than 100 IDPs have returned to Nadiangere Payam of Yambio County.
