FASHER, NOV. 7, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan on Tuesday morning seized control of another Sudanese army base in the conflict-ridden Darfur region.

The RSF took over the garrison and surrounding areas of Umm Kadada in North Darfur after the Sudanese army and police forces withdrew from the area.

The incursion led to heavy gunfire and displacement of a large number of residents. Information on casualties from both sides of the conflict remains unavailable.

Umm Kadada is situated approximately 200 kilometers from the regional capital, El Fasher. It borders Al-Komah locality to the northwest, Al-Tawisha to the south, West Kordofan state to the east, and Kalimandu locality to the west.

A previous report by Sudans Post indicated a large-scale displacement of residents from eastern and northern areas of North Darfur to safe havens south of El-Fasher to escape the fierce battles between the army and RSF.

The clashes have resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and severe damage to infrastructure.

North Darfur State Governor Nimr Muhammad Abdel Rahman had previously urged citizens to leave areas of conflict between the warring parties for safe areas.

Meanwhile, the United States has called on RSF and the Sudanese army to immediately cease hostilities in and around El-Fasher and to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law regarding the protection of civilians during conflicts.

The RSF has taken control of West Darfur, Central Darfur, and Southern Darfur states. RSF leaders have announced their intention to attack El-Fasher and have launched several attacks on the city in recent days.
