JUBA – Unity State’s Rubkona County has now been wholly taken over by water and all villagers including those inside Rubkona town have been displaced, the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in the area said.

Yam Ruot told Sudans Post in an interview this morning that villagers have been displaced and water have submerged the Bentiu-Rubkona street blocking transport between the twin cities as well as between Rubkona and the former POC.

“’The whole of Rubkona County is currently under water. Dingding, Nyeleera, Nyitang, Koat, Tochrur, Tiethe, and Paranga have all been taken by water and I can say that all the people of the entire Rubkona County is now displaced,” he told Sudans Post by phone from Rubkona.

The senior local government official further said that parts of Rubkona Airport has been taken over by water and residents of areas of Rubkona have also been displaced by water and appealed for the aid organizations to intervene.

“Whole these areas including here in Rubkona town have been taken by water and our people have become IDPs. This is not because of rain, but because of flooding. We don’t know where the water is coming from because it come from all the directions,” he said.

“So, I call on the humanitarian organizations to intervene and give our people the much needed medical help because many people are now dying of snake bites, drowning and also they are being killed by diseases,” he added.
