JUBA – A South Sudan lawmaker who was appointed into Warrap state parliament by President Salva Kiir Mayardit this week when he reconstituted the transitional state legislative assembly there has said that the president didn’t consult him and as such he will not take up the position.

Kur Bona Bol Abur said in a statement seen by Sudans Post that he was also surprised to be appointed into the parliament and said he won’t be able to take up the role of member of state transitional legislative assembly given his busy job which he did not reveal.

“I am writing this letter to you in response to a Presidential decree that was read out on South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) Wednesday the 17th November 2021. In the above cited decree, I am among those that were appointed as members of the reconstituted state legislative assembly in Warrap state,” he said in the statement.

“In light of the above, I am hereby expressing my gratitude to you, the SPLM party and the president and by extension the people of Tonj North for the trust shown in me as demonstrated by my surprise appointment into the state assembly,” he added.

He said the appointment “has come at an inopportune time for me due to the plans I have already put for myself in pursuance of further education and career development.”

“Secondly; the work I am currently doing is contributing to enormous changes in the life of people and communities and my institution serve. These changes are key to stabilization of the country and supporting transition to democratic dispensation in which people will regain the power to elect their leaders. I am deeply invested in this process and I believe it is the right way to serve the people at this particular stage in my career.

“I am therefore respectfully declining this assignment in light of the above reasons Kindly accept the assurance of my continuous loyalty and support to the leadership and the SPLM led RTGONU government.”
