JUBA – South Sudan activist Edmund Yakani has welcomed the imminent graduation of unified forces, saying the leaders of the world’s youngest country are now demonstrating political will, a day after military consignment carrying equipment such as uniforms arrived from Sudan.
On Friday, the army spokesman Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai said plane carrying military equipment arrived from the Sudanese capital Khartoum. He said military uniforms, boots and belts will be distributed to training centers at Gorom, Rajaf, Rambur and Lologo.
In a statement extended to Sudans Post this morning, Yakani who is also the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) welcomed the arrival of the military equipment and described it as a show of political will by the country’s leaders.
“CEPO appreciates the recent demonstration of political will and the parties on the planned graduation of the first group of the unified forces. We missed this political will demonstration for the last three years of the R-ARCSS,” the outspoken activist said.
“Timely implementation of the transitional security arrangements is a key cornerstone of successful political transitioning from Violence to peace through R-RACSS implementation,” he added.
Yakani who yesterday won a prestigious continental award for peace activism said completion of the implementation of the pending tasks of the revitalized peace agreement is important and urged the presidency to demonstrate political will to complete the transitional period peacefully.
“Completion of the pending tasks of the transitional security arrangements within the period before rolling out roadmap for extension of the 24 months for R-ARCSS implementation,” the prominent activist said.
“It is time for the presidency mechanism as a primary actor to demonstrate political will and commitment for regaining public trust and confidences that they lost in the period of the three years for the less action for implementing the R-ARCSS,” he stressed.
