RUMBEK – A South Sudanese lawmaker survived an accident after his car lost control while travelling from Rumbek to Juba on 4. February.
Poth Madit Dut said the afternoon incident occurred about 15KM from Guolyar.
“On Sunday 4th February, 2024 when I was driving in my car with 7 others including my eldest son and elder sister from Rumbek to Juba. At about 15km from Guolyar at around 12:30 PM, I felt the car skidding off the road hence tried to control it- this happened in about a split second,” he narrated.
Dut, a former deputy governor of Lakes State, said he regained consciousness an hour after the accident which attracted so many people within the scene.
“The first person I recognized was Peter Mangui Malok, then saw Ayiei Majak Malok and John Mabor Deng. I didn’t know what had happened or what was going on. It is my sister who recounted to me what happened,” he recalled.
The MP also stated how his car rolled over after the tyre spanned off the wheel.
“I felt like I had just woken up from a deep sleep. It took me a while before making sense of the whole situation. I got to my feet and staggered towards what had remained of my GXR V8. It was in ruins! I checked on my passengers and luckily all of them were alive! Only minor injuries. It was a miracle!”, he said.
Meanwhile Dut thanked Col. Dut Abraham Gum for sending a car to rescue him.
“I am very grateful to you Col. Dut Abraham,” he stressed.
The lawmaker also thanked Hon. Joseph Malwal Dong and Philip Thon Madit for their responses.
