South Sudan parties agree on states ministerial allocation – Odwar

JUBA – South Sudan’s parties to the revitalized peace agreement have agreed to the allocation of ministerial positions in the states, according to mining minister and SPLM-IO deputy chief Henry Odwar.

This comes more than five months since the parties began talks on how to divide power amongst themselves in the states following the formation of the revitalized unity government at the national level.

Speaking to SSBC on Monday, the SPLM-IO deputy chairman of SPLM-IO who is also the minister of mining Henry Odwar, the parties have finally agreed on the allocation of state ministers.

“Indeed we came up to an amicable end where the ministerial portfolios at the state levels were equitably and amicably shared,” Odwar said.

James Gatdet, the spokesman for First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar confirmed in a brief statement on social media that the “Parties to R-ARCSS have made a breakthrough and finally agreed on amicable allocation of the 17 ministries in each state and across the country.”

For his part, deputy minister of interior Paul Mayom Akech confirmed the new development.

“The outstanding issues relating to the executive branches of the states have been holistically handled. The parties have agreed to allocate the then outstanding ministries to themselves equitably and acceptably,” Mayom said.
