JUBA – South Sudan former army commander General Stephen Buay Rolnyang has said the country’s presidency has been taken over by elements who once served the deposed Sudanese National Congress Party led by imprisoned ex-president Omar al Bashir.

General Buay, a highly respected formed army commander, was arrested a detained in 2019 for more than a year following accusations that he was defecting to opposition groups including the SPLM-IO led by FVP Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

No evident was established during his trial that was largely manipulated by top government and army commanders including the former army chief Gabriel Jok Riak who reportedly threatened the judge.

In 2019, he was stripped of his rank and dismissed from the service.

In a statement on Monday, Buay said he has joined ranks with General Paul Malong Awan and further warned that fighting could escalate in Unity state and urged oil workers to vacate Unity state oilfields ahead of imminent attacks.

In the same statement, Buay said the presidency has been taken over by members of National Congress Party who he said are influencing the president in all decisions being made in the state house J-1.

“The presidential palace of this country has been captured by the elements of the National Congress Party group led by Security Advisor Tut Gatluak Manime and his team including Hon. Dhieu Mathok, Hon. Joseph Monytuil Wicjang, the governor of unity state, Hon. Tong Akeen, the governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Hon. Dak Duop Bichok and Hon. Mayik Ayii,” he said.

“This group has controlled the president through General Akol Koor and sidelined the real SPLM members from interacting with the president. They have managed to manipulate the president into issuing the daily erroneous decrees to sack who they don’t want and appoint who they want, especially those who cannot challenge them before the president,” he added.

I couldn’t disagree with you general Stephen Buay Rolnyang. It is absolutely true to say general Stephen Buay, there is no SPLM vision any more after when the late Chairman Dr.John Garang died. President Kiir Mayardit himself voted against separation of South Sudan nation and the politicians did not even challenge him. Riek Machar Teny and President Kiir Mayardit have been told by the National dialogue delegates that, they must steps down and let the new faces take to lead but they have rejected.
