JUBA – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, has decried unilateral dissemination of the revitalized peace agreement in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state by the former ITGONU.

Since his appointment in June, Northern Bahr el Ghazal state governor Tong Akeen Ngor has been disseminating the revitalized peace agreement without the participation of the SPLM-IO led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

In a statement to Sudans Post this morning, senior SPLM-IO official in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, Dut Majokdit, said the unilateral action by the government is unacceptable and does not conform with the spirit of teh 2018 peace agreement.

“It’s meaningless to disseminate the revitalized peace agreement without other political parties that signed the agreement in Northern Bhar el Ghazal state by the governor Honorable Tong Akeen Ngor,” Dut said.

Dut said since his appointment, Ngor has toured at least five counties there to disseminate the agreement, saying such action should not be carried out by any party without the participation of others who signed the revitalized peace agreement.

“The governor went to four counties in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state and in Aweil East County disseminating the Peace agreement without the Opposition Parties in the State which is mischief and premature,” he said while saying  “it’s a right for the governor to tour the five counties as the newly appointed governor for the state but not to disseminate the Revitalized Peace Agreement without the opposition parties.”

He further stressed that the revitalized peace agreement “should be disseminated by all the parties that were represented at the high-level revitalization forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as stipulated for in the agreement.”
