WARRAP – A South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) officer survived a life-threatening attack on Monday after being ambushed by unidentified assailants while traveling from Agok to Madou, an area between Twic County and the Abyei Administrative Area.

The attackers shot him and fled the scene with his AK-47 rifle, officials said.

Warrap State Police Inspector, James Mangong, speaking by phone to Sudans Post from Mayen-Abun in Twic County’s Wun-rok Payam, described the incident as alarming for local residents, who were shocked by the news.

“The victim, identified as Mayiik Dhel Kon-Dok, a 38-year-old officer of Division 11, was ambushed in a bushy area between Agok and Madou. He was shot in the buttock, and the bullet exited through his abdomen, leaving him unconscious,” Mangong said.

According to a source familiar with the incident, Dhel was attacked around 6:30 p.m. while leaving Agok market.

Residents of Madou village found him unconscious and transported him to Mayen-Abun for initial treatment.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to Mother Teresa Hospital in Turalei, where he is currently being treated for internal bleeding.

Mangong warned residents against traveling after dark, citing the dangers posed by unresolved internal and border conflicts in the area.

“People should exercise caution when moving in these regions, especially at night. The area between Twic County and the Abyei Administrative Area remains volatile and prone to attacks,” Mangong said.

Local authorities are investigating the attack, but no suspects have been identified so far.
