KHARTOUM – The activities of some diplomatic missions violate Sudan’s sovereignty, said the spokeswoman of the Sovereign Council on Thursday.

Salma Abdel Jabar al-Mubarak stated that the military-controlled collegial presidency discussed the current situation in the country including the ongoing arrangements to settle the security situation in Darfur.

“Also, the meeting listened to a report from the acting Foreign Minister Ali al-Sadiq about the activities of some missions in Khartoum that break diplomatic norms and violate the sovereignty of the country,” al-Mubarak added.

She did not elaborate on these violations.

On Wednesday, Sudanese Islamists who emerged as fervent supporters for the October 25 coup d’état demonstrated in front of the UNITAMS headquarters rejecting its efforts to facilitate a Sudanese-led dialogue to end the political crisis in Sudan.

They held two separate sittings in front of the UK and Norway embassies to denounce their “meddling” in the Sudanese internal affairs.

Days following the coup, the British ambassador to Khartoum condemned the military takeover and called to restore the transitional government. Also, the Norwegian ambassador condemned the coup and the excessive use of violence in Sudan some weeks later.

The foreign ministry was one of the bastions that were under the full control of the then ruling National Congress Party.

The transitional government of former Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok made few reforms in the civil service inherited from the former regime.

Hamdok left the task for the Empowerment Removal Committee which was tasked with the dismantlement of the whole former regime.

Also, all the diplomats relieved by the committee in 2020 have regained their jobs after the coup.
