JUBA – A Sudanese businessman was killed in an attack by armed robbers in Mathiang town, the headquarters of Upper Nile State’s Longechuk County on Monday, a local official said, Radio Tamazuj reports.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Dak Tut Dey, the county commissioner said the deceased identified as Ibrahim Abdalla met his fate after robbers attacked his shop in Mathiang during business hours on Monday.
“The incident happened on January 31 at 3 pm in the county headquarters High Court in Longochuk,” he said. “One of my business people was attacked in the market by some criminals who intended to loot his money. They shot him dead.”
He pointed out that security forces have arrested four people in connection to the incident and that investigation is ongoing.
“We have arrested four people suspected to have been involved in the killing. Investigations are ongoing. If the investigation confirms their involvement, they will be transferred to Malakal,” he added.
The county commissioner condemned the killing and extended condolences to the deceased’s family.
“The deceased was a very familiar person. He has been with us since 2016. He was a sociable person married to one of our ladies and he was even a coach to one of our football teams. His death has saddened everyone in the county,” he said.
