JUBA, JUNE 14, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has sparked controversy again after he claimed that there are terrorists operating in some African countries, including South Sudan, that threatens the security of Uganda.

In a statement ahead of the Ugandan National Hero’s Day last Thursday, Museveni congratulated his country’s security forces for protecting Ugandans in spite of terrorist threats from South Sudan, among other African countries.

“Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu. Greetings. Congratulations on the Heroes’ Day of tomorrow and Congratulations on Mwalimu Nyerere’s Prayer Day (the 1st of June) and on Martyrs Day (the 3rd of June),” he said.

“I congratulate the security forces for blocking all the terrorist activities and ensuring that the huge celebrations (like those of the 3rd of June), took place without incident in spite of the terrorists operating in Congo, South Sudan, Somalia, Mozambique, etc,” he claimed.

It is not the first time for the Ugandan leader to spark controversy against South Sudanese. In 2021, Museveni claimed that South Sudanese are not black, but instead blue.

“When you look at South Sudanese, they are not black they are blue,” he controversially said at the time.

“You need to look at them carefully they are not black they are blue, so how can you call blue men blacks? You must be sick,” he added.

South Sudan’s presidency spokesman, Ateny Wek Ateny at the time, expressed strong disapproval of Museveni’s remarks and asked for explanation as to what the Ugandan leader mean of the claim that South Sudanese are blue.

“President Yoweri Museveni himself knows that there are only the white, the Asian, and the black people. We never heard of blue people. President Museveni has to explain to the world,” Ateny told local journalists at the time.

Terrorists are threatening Ugandan National Security through South Sudan.

President Museveni claims severally that South Sudan became a problem to Uganda national security. In fact Uganda is an eye to South Sudan, because president Museveni can not quite always alert on what is ongoing between the borders. The point am making here is that, president Museveni is not against the will of South Sudanese but he is alerting that terrorists are now available in huge number within Republic of South Sudan. In the real sense if it explode in South Sudan, it can also explode in Uganda, because these are the two countries bordering each other. Beside, when you see the writings of Bona Malual, the well known politician of the time, you will realize and interpret that South Sudan has not liberate itself from an old system of Islamic system and regime. So, you people South Sudanese why are you annoyed from the statement that South Sudanese are not black but blue?

I still advice that think around this statement critically reason being what Ugandan president said will explode one day, one time.
