AKOBO – Two people were killed and 10 others injured when the Murle attacked Thep cattle camp in Akobo County of Jonglei State on Sunday, an official said.

The county commissioner Puok Nyang Tutjick said the attack occurred at about 8:00am local time.

“This attack was carried out by Murle armed youth who are still opposing peace between Lou Nuer and Murle communities, those criminal youths from GPAA [Greater Pibor Administrative Area] made their way, carried our un provocative attack on Lou Nuer in Thep cattle camp,” he said in a statement.

Puok strongly condemned the criminal attack on the innocent Lou Nuer people.

“This attack is in violation of the Inter Communities Governmental Structure (ICGS) Meeting in Ayod and Likuangole counties in November 2-7 and Dec 10-14 2023 respectively and Uno conference that ended three days ago in Likuangole County,” he stressed.

The commissioner called upon the Lou Nuer peace loving community to remain calm and allow your authorities to peacefully address this unfortunate attack.

He further appealed to GPAA government and county commissioners to push for the immediate withdrawal of the Murle youth from the Lou Nuer territory.

Communities of Jonglei State and the Greater Pibor Area have for long been wrangling, leading to cattle raids, child abductions, and killings.
