UN refugee chief arrives in South Sudan for one-day visit

JUBA – The UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi has arrived in the South Sudanese capital Juba for a one-day visit, a spokesman for the UNHCR official in South Sudan has just told Sudans Post.

Noah Gift Friday, the Assistant External Relations Officer for UNHCR in South Sudan, said he top UN official will discuss with senior government officials including President Salva Kiir Mayardit durable solutions for IDPs and refugees.

“UNHCR is pleased to announce arrival of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi on a one-day official visit to South Sudan to brief the leadership on the progress of Durable Solutions for IDPS and Refugees for Sudan and South Sudan ahead of the IGAD’s special Heads of State summit to officially launch the Solutions Initiative for Sudan and South Sudan,” Friday said in an email to Sudans Post.

“During his trip Mr. Grandi is scheduled to meet with HE President Salva Kiir, Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng De-Mabior, Minister of Foreign Affairs, IGAD, international donors, and the United Nations Country Team,” he added.

He said the top UN official “will also visit a Refugee Returnee family in Juba to acquaint himself with the conditions of returnees in the Country.”
