JUBA, JANUARY 25th 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The United States government has issued a statement condemning escalating attacks on humanitarian workers in South Sudan and urged the government to end sub-national violence which has now become a threat to peace.
In a statement this evening, the US embassy called on the government to prescribe remedy for the ethnic violence at sub-national level and bring to account those responsible for crimes such as the killing of humanitarian workers in the world’s youngest country.
“The U.S. Embassy condemns in the strongest terms the recent targeted attacks on humanitarian workers and their compounds in South Sudan, including those that have led to the deaths of three South Sudanese humanitarian workers and injury to others,” the US statement said.
“We renew our call for South Sudan’s leaders to act with urgency to end subnational violence and to hold accountable those responsible for attacks targeting civilians and humanitarian organizations, as well as for abductions and other human rights violationsm,” it added.
It further said that the US government stands “with all those who work for peace and stability in South Sudan.”
