File: US embassy letter asking South Sudan government to handover part of Juba airport

JUBA – The US embassy in Juba will take over the Juba airport for two days during the visit by a top United States diplomat, this website has learned.

Last week, the United States department of state said in a statement that Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Tibor Nagy will visit a number of African countries including South Sudan.

He is expected to meet – during his visit to Juba – President Salva Kiir Mayardit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny and will discuss the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement which is facing some challenges.

The US embassy in Juba wrote a letter to South Sudan’s ministry of foreign affairs asking to be given the full access and control over a certain area at Juba International Airport starting Thursday.

“The Embassy of the Unites States of America presents its compliment to the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan and has the honor to request access to Juba International Airport VIP Lounge for U.S. Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Tibor Nagy and two accompanying staff Louis Mazel and James Plasmar,” the letter partly reads.

He will arrive in Juba aboard Kenyan Airways plane on Thursday and will depart the country on Friday.
