OPINION – First time I heard about that name was back in 2014, I might had used it once in a while, but I never like it. Many of us know the meaning of Nuer Wew, and who to call by that name back in the days; nowadays, my comrades are not being fair when using the very same name. If we want to continue using that name, we must be using it fairly and without any discrimination.
I believe that we will all agree that, we have senior & junior Nuer Wews, those NW are classified based on the period of time they spent in Juba working or supporting the government, for instance, those officials who refused to join SPLM-IO in 2013 because they rejected to be led by Dr. Riek Machar, are the most seniors, those who defected between 2015 to 2018 are juniors and so on…. etc
There is couple of criteria’s to meet, for you to be called/known as NW (Nuer Wew), below are some:
1 – Working for the government, and reside in Juba
2 – Supporting the government in diaspora
3 – Being a nationalist, or advocating for Nuer & Dinka to reconcile and live together
4 – Criticism of Riek Machar & his wife
5 – Calling for a change of leadership
Now, with all the above-mentioned criteria, we can all agree that Riek Machar himself is a SENIOR NUER WEW full. First of all, Riek signed the Revitalized Peace Agreement, took the oath and resumed his duties officially as the FVP of President Kiir Mayardit, he’s residing in a government’s mansion, roaming our capital city in a presidential motorcade and of course, receiving his fat official salary on regular basis.
Secondly; Riek was the one who commanded IO’s forces to stop fighting the government forces (majority from Dinka), he was encouraging them to accept peace till he signed his fake peace agreement in 2018, and now he’s in Juba as a national FVP of President Kiir, his duty is to serve the Citizens of South Sudan NOT Nueri or SPLM/A IO, and you all can see it clearly during POC incident in Juba & when Lou Nuer was attacked by Murle, Riek Machar couldn’t even uttered a word of sympathy to comfort the victims of his own stronghold, why.
Because, he’s a national FVP and can’t interfere in communal fighting, that has been going on for decades, instead, he was happily enjoying comfort of his luxurious mansion, celebrating his wife’s birthday & their wedding anniversary.
Now, to you my confused comrades, why none of you come out publicly to criticise/abuse Riek Machar, since he’s a senior Nuer Wew?? He’s in Juba and doing the same thing rest of senior Nuer Wew’s are doing; he’s being command, supervised, protected, paid .., etc by President Kiir, why no one is talking about that?
I know some smart one will answer with a big dull smile: Riek is in Juba implementing the Peace Agreement! Correct good boy/girl, yes he’s implementing the signed peace agreement. Since you know that fact about peace agreement implementation, why confusing and disturbing people on media’s outlets that Kiir must go, we must fight, Riek must be the president blah blah blah.
Riek gave up the idea of being the president of SS, that’s why he signed his peace agreement and accepted to be Kiir’s vice, the same peace agreement he’s implementing is prohibiting him to fight or stage any coup against the government of South Sudan, otherwise he will face severe consequences.
So please, stop confusing yourselves/others & give people a break; try to think & analyse things properly, inciting, spreading rumours and false information won’t help us in anyway. Riek & his wife made their family decision to join Kiir in Juba, they destroyed and abandoned SPLM/A IO’s vision, mission & objectives, for their own interest. If you’re following Riek as your traditional healer/god or any of those juju things, please pack your bags and follow him in Juba, but always bear in mind that; he’s a national figure.
If you’re a true loyalist to IO, come and join us to reform and restore our destroyed and abandoned vision/mission and objectives. I’ll cease my writing here today, but don’t forget
next time you talk about NW, don’t forget to include Riek, his wife, their officials/members in SS & diaspora, because you all became NUER WEW and thanks goes to Riek & his selfish & fake peace agreement.
