Known as Citizenship for Floods Mitigation (CFM), the initiative aims at mobilizing citizens across the country to contribute materially to help those displaced by floods, according to Yakani who warned that the country is suffering from floods.
“CEPO is taking this opportunity to urge every citizen being a leader in government, private sector, faith-based group and nongovernmental sector to contribute with any little support for helping the victims of floods. The floods are now doing more harm to our citizens across the country,” he said in the statement.
The prominent activist said the country is in a country is a crisis that needs the help of every citizen in order to contribute to the flood mitigation process.
“It is a moment of demonstrating citizenship for fellow citizens at risk and facing life threat like posted by the floods on our communities. The ongoing of floods threats on our communities daily is getting worse and government capacity to response to every single case is not possible. Let us all stand up as nationalists for our nation at moment like this of the floods that is threatening the lives and livelihoods of our communities,” Yakani said.
“It is a time for the political leaders to prioritize response to the needs of the citizens in the face of the flood threats first than their political interest. The government allocation of 61.7 million dollars for supporting the floods responses is not enough. Our collective actions as nationalists are now needed,” the activist stressed.
