Army condemns ‘barbaric and indiscriminate’ murder of Chinese national, promises justice

South Sudan's army has condemned Wednesday's killing of Chinese national who was working with the Shandong High Speed Company that is working on the construction of the Juba-Rumbek highway.

JUBA – South Sudan’s army has condemned Wednesday’s killing of Chinese national who was working with the Shandong High Speed Company that is working on the construction of the Juba-Rumbek highway.

The Chinese national was shot dead along with a South Sudan People’s Defense Force soldier who was deployed along with the road construction company to provide security to the workers along the way.

In a statement, the South Sudan People’s Defense Force spokesman Major General Lul Ruai Koang said they learned with regret the death of the Chinese national identified as Zhang Junsheng.

“SSPDF GHQS under the leadership of Chief of Defense Forces would like to pass its sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Family of Late Mr. Zhang Junsheng, a Chinese national who was working for Shandong High Speed Company,” Major General Lul said in the statement.

“Late Zhang and own serviceman were shot dead by unidentified armed high way robbers on May 26th, 2021 along Juba-Jebel Lado road in Jubek County, Central Equatoria State,” it confirmed.

He said the army condemns the killing and said it will bring the culprits to justice.

“The SSPDF leadership condemns in the strongest terms possible the barbaric and indiscriminate killing of innocent people along the highways and feeder roads,” the statement added.

“SSPDF would like to assure people from all walks of life of own ability and capacity to provide security to all road users as well as emphasize on our determination to bring to justice culprits of that heinous crime,” the statement further added.
