JUBA – Former South Sudan finance minister Aggrey Tisa Sabuni has strongly denied having a son working with the country’s National Security Service (NSS).
This comes after a report published by Sudans Post on Monday citing security a source that 27 officers, including NSS Colonel Sunday Tisa Sabuni – an alleged son of the former finance minister – had been arrested in Juba amid rumors of a coup attempt.
In a conversation with Sudans Post late last night, Sabuni expressed his surprise at the report and clarified that he does not have a son by the name mentioned, nor does he have any affiliation with the National Security Service.
“This is the problem. I do not have a son with that name, let alone in the National Security Service,” he said, when asked if he has a son working with the NSS.
Sudans Post subsequently issued a statement today, acknowledging the error in their initial report and offering a sincere apology.
“We extend our apologies to Mr. Aggrey Tisa Sabuni, and anyone affected by the error,” the publication said in a statement. “Sudans Post remains dedicated to delivering accurate and reliable news to our readers, and we will take necessary measures to prevent such mistakes in the future.”
Sudans Post explained that they were unable to independently verify the existence of an individual named Sunday Tisa Sabuni or confirm his connection as the son of Mr. Aggrey Tisa Sabuni due to difficulties in obtaining relevant documentation.
“Please note that, regrettably, we were unable to independently verify the existence of a person named Sunday Tisa Sabuni or confirm if he is the son of Mr. Aggrey Tisa Sabuni due to difficulties in obtaining relevant documentation,” it said.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to ensure the accuracy of our reporting,” it added.
