JUBA – Former South Sudan rebel commander General Madit Gal Doh has been decorated by South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) with his rank being limited to major general.

General Madit was the chief of staff of the National People’s Alliance Movement/Army (NPAM/A) which broke away from FVP Dr. Riek Machar in 2017 to sign a peace agreement with President Salva Kiir Mayardit in 2018.

The agreement provides for the reintegration of the forces of the NPAM/A into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF). Last month, General Madit’s rank was downgraded from lieutenant general to major general and was decorated during a ceremony at Bilpam last week.

Speaking to Sudans Post in an exclusive interview this morning, General Madit thanked President Salva Kiir Mayardit who doubles as the commander in chief of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces for making the deal succeed as agreed.

“I thank His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of the Republic of South Sudan and the Commander in Chief of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) for promoting me and for making sure that the arrangements we made came as planned,” he said.

“I also thanks the former chairman and commander in chief of the National People’s Alliance Movement/Army (NPAM/A) Hon. Gen Ruai Kuol Jal Thor, Hon. Gen. Tut Gatluak for their efforts in realizing this agreement,” he added.

He directed his troops to report themselves to the NPAM/A cantonment site in Tong at Rubkona county for the completion of the reintegration process which begun over a year ago.

“I therefore calls on all soldiers of the NPAM/A to return to cantonment site at Tong in Rubkona in preparation for the last phase of the reintegration process into South Sudan People’s Defense Forces because the chief of defense forces General Santino Deng Wol has sent a team to complete the process again,” he said.

“So, all the soldiers are therefore directed to report themselves into the cantonment site to begin the process of reintegration which is in its last phase,” he added.
