Kiir ‘talking’ with Machar to end SPLA-IO Kitgwang infighting – minister

The national Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Onyoti Adigo who attended the meeting told the media that Kiir expressed concerns over the escalating fighting between the opposition forces and said the president has informed them that he is in talk with First Vice President Machar to end the fighting.

JUBA – A senior South Sudan government official has said that President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny are working together in order to end the deadly SPLA-IO Kitgwang infighting in Upper Nile State that is fitting forces loyal to Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual and Gen. Johnson Olony.

Gen. Gatwech is the leader of the SPLM-IO Kitgwang faction which broke away from the main opposition SPLM-IO group in 2021. Gen. Olony was his deputy until recently when disagreements between the two opposition generals over the implementation of the January 2022 peace deal with the government.

Deadly fighting in Upper Nile State between forces loyal to the two generals has resulted in the killing and displacement of innocent civilians, after the Gawaar White Army joined the conflict to support Gen. Gatwech against Olony.

In a statement on Monday, President Salva Kiir’s office said a meeting between the head of state and the governor of the embattled Upper Nile State Gen. Abudhok Ayang discuss the security situation in the state with intensive deliberation on the SPLA-IO Kitgwang infighting.

“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday met with the Governor of Upper Nile State, Hon Abudhok Ayang Kur, regarding the general Security situation in his State following the recent clashes involving Kitgwang factions in Panyikang County, Upper Nile State,” the presidency statement reads in part.

“The meeting with the President further discussed about the recent clashes in Malakal, Panyikang County between the rival forces loyal to Kitgwang splinter group, headed by General Simon Gatwech Dual, and General Johnson Olony,” the statement continued.

The national Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Onyoti Adigo who attended the meeting told the media that Kiir expressed concerns over the escalating fighting between the opposition forces and said the president has informed them that he is in talk with First Vice President Machar to end the fighting.

“Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Onyoti Adigo Nyikwac said the President Kiir expressed his concerns about the insecurity in Malakal especially the fighting between SPLM-IO Kitgwang Agwelek factions,” the statement said.

“The President said he is talking with the First Vice President, the Chairman of SPLM-IO to mediate the process in order to stop the conflict within the SPLM-IO Kitgwang factions,” the minister said in his address to the media.

    Ustaz. Onyoti Adigo, warning. If we commence to asked Kiir, Machar to warring other oppositions, it will automatically divide the newly what so called unified forces after unified forces have graduated
