JUBA, JULY 2, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s civil society activist Edmund Yakani has welcomed tomorrow’s visit to Western Bahr el Ghazal State’s capital Wau by President Salva Kiir Mayardit and called the head of state to go with his first deputy Dr. Riek Machar.

Speaking to Sudans Post on Sunday evening, a presidency official said President Kiir will on Monday morning travel to Wau where he will attend a ceremony in which his December 2022 nomination for presidency in the 2024 elections will be celebrated by the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region.

In a statement extended to Sudans Post, Yakani who is the executive director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) welcomed the visit by the president to Wau tomorrow and called for a joint visit for Kiir and Machar.

“CEPO welcomed the visit of the president to Wau for Bahr el Ghazal region event. This move is remarkable and CEPO wish the president will do similar visits to the other two regions namely Equatoria and Upper Nile regions. This move offers president opportunity of listening to the citizens and speak to them too,” he said.

Yakani said that he hopes that the president should embrace a joint visit with first vice president as “a symbol of reconciliation and forgiveness in line with the president declaration of year 2023 as a year of peace, reconciliation, and development.”

“The joint president and first Vice President will make the citizens to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation especially at the current where the country is expecting looming national elections to be held in December 2024,” he added.
